Updated Travel Reimbursement Requirements
Dear colleagues,
As we move further into the academic year, we want to remind you of the importance of preregistering all Cornell-related international travel in the Cornell International Travel Registry. Registration in advance of travel is necessary for compliance with federal regulations, required by university policy, and crucial for your safety and security.
Starting November 1, 2024, international travel that is not preregistered will be classified as non-authorized and business-related travel expenses will not be reimbursed.
It’s easy to preregister and be appropriately reimbursed for your Cornell-related international travel by following these few steps:
- Log in with your NetID at travelregistry.cornell.edu to register your trip.
- Complete all required details accurately and submit your planned trip before your departure date.
- Save your confirmation email and enter your “international trip ID number” into your Concur expense report. (Students should follow instructions for Non-Employee Expense Reporting.)
Preregistering international travel is required by University Policy 8.5 (Risk Management for International Travel) and keeps the university compliant with recent guidance from the U.S. Federal Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) regarding the implementation of National Security Presidential Memorandum 33 (NSPM-33).
The Travel Registry is a crucial tool that supports your safety and compliance with all necessary regulations while you are abroad. Last academic year, 219 Cornell travelers who experienced emergencies while abroad received personalized support from Cornell’s International Health, Safety, and Security (IHSS) team.
Cornell provides all travelers participating in university-related international travel with 24/7 urgent and emergent medical insurance (note: this does not cover preventative or routine care), medical and security evacuation and repatriation, security briefings, and a variety of other travel-support services. Learn more about Travel Insurance and the 24/7 Travel Assistance program.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions or need assistance with the registration process, please email IHSS at intlsafety@cornell.edu.
