Personal Travel

Do Not Register Personal-Only Travel

The Travel Registry is for Cornell-related travel. While personal travel combined with Cornell-related trips may be registered (see below), do not register trips solely personal or unrelated to Cornell activities.

Personal/non-Cornell travel includes:

  • Vacation or holiday travel
  • Spring break trips that are not faculty-led
  • Travel to/from home
  • Student and/or independent organization trips

Cornell does not:

  • Regulate personal travel
  • Assume responsibility for travelers on personal travel
  • Provide medical evacuation, security evacuation, or repatriation coverage for personal travel

Only register travel that is:

  • Cornell directed or supervised: Travel fully supported and supervised by Cornell with university oversight, e.g., faculty-led international courses.
  • Cornell facilitated or supported: Travel related to Cornell academic or professional objectives, including approved exchange programs, internships, in absentia status, study abroad, or travel funded by Cornell grants and scholarships.

Combined Personal and Cornell-Related Travel

You may register personal travel when it is combined with Cornell-related travel, provided the personal portion is limited to 14 days. Cornell's emergency evacuation insurance covers up to 14 days of personal travel (sojourn) that occurs directly before, during, or after your Cornell-related trip.

When registering a combined trip:

  • Select both the "Non-Cornell or Personal Travel" and "Cornell Funded, Directed, Supervised, or Facilitated Travel" checkboxes, as shown below.
