Kalaniyot at Cornell Sabbatical Scholars

Kalaniyot at Cornell invites applications from established researchers at Israeli institutions who wish to spend their sabbatical at Cornell.

The opportunity is designed to strengthen academic collaboration and build lasting professional ties between Israeli scholars and Cornell faculty. Kalaniyot sabbatical scholars are selected through a competitive process and receive financial support to help offset the cost of living near campus, enabling full participation in research and campus life.

Overview and Eligibility

  • Fields Supported: All academic disciplines at Cornell (excluding Weill Cornell Medicine)
  • Sabbatical Duration: Appointments may range from one to 12 months.
  • Financial Support: Scholars receive a stipend of $3,000 per month. The appointment also provides health insurance and other benefits.
  • Eligibility: Applicants must hold sabbatical-eligible academic or research appointments at an Israeli research institution.

Application Process

Applications must be submitted through Interfolio and include the following materials:

  • Online application form (including prospective host information)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Sabbatical approval letter from the home institution confirming eligibility for academic year 2026–27
  • Proposed research plan in consultation with their prospective Cornell host
  • Commitment letter from the Cornell faculty host

Note: Prospective hosts may support multiple applicants and will be consulted if more than one candidate reaches the final review stage. Applicants may apply to work with only one faculty member per campus chapter.

Additional Materials:

Applicants must also submit a community statement addressing:

  • Contributions to their community in Israel in recent years
  • How they envision contributing to the Kalaniyot at Cornell community during their appointment
