Dear international students, faculty, and staff:

If you are planning international travel over spring break or in the coming weeks, be aware that U.S. federal travel restrictions are evolving and could impact your ability to return.

A travel ban is anticipated for citizens of the following countries: Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.

Increased scrutiny by the federal government may apply to citizens of these countries: Belarus, Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, Pakistan, Russia, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Turkmenistan.

Reports indicate these countries will have 60 days to address security concerns or face travel restrictions: Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe.

The list of affected countries may change, and additional restrictions could be implemented with little notice. If you decide to travel either internationally or within the U.S., be sure to carry:

  • Valid passport and visa
  • I-20 (F-1) or DS-2019 (J-1)
  • Proof of your connection to Cornell (certificate of enrollment or transcript)
  • Evidence of funding

The International Services team is monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates as more information becomes available. We are here to help and support you. If you have questions or concerns about your travel plans, please reach out to International Services and we will direct you to the right resources. Cornell Tech students should email Student and Academic Affairs.
