Cornell Guangzhou Center Opens Its Doors with First Public Event

The Cornell Guangzhou Center welcomed alumni, prospective students, faculty, and friends of Cornell on June 20 for its first event.

More than 40 people from across the Greater Bay Area attended the program, “Asset Allocation in a High-Volatility Era,” including alumni from Guangzhou and visitors who traveled from Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Approximately two-thirds of attendees were Cornell alumni.

The event featured a discussion on finance and macroeconomics led by Eric Yeung, faculty director of the Cornell-Tsinghua FMBA program, together with faculty colleagues from Tsinghua University. Participants explored developments in the U.S. economy, treasury market, and equity markets while engaging in conversations about current financial trends and opportunities.

The program also provided an opportunity for prospective students to learn more about the FMBA program. Several attendees connected with faculty following the session to discuss future study opportunities.

Alumni welcomed the new center as a gathering place for the Cornell community in southern China.

“Very glad to see the Guangzhou Center established. Our alumni in the Greater Bay Area now have a home. We hope to host more alumni gatherings and sharing events in the future, to strengthen alumni connections and support the career development of our alumni.”

The Cornell Guangzhou Center expands opportunities for alumni engagement, academic programming, and institutional partnerships in southern China. Additional events are already planned, including a program commemorating Cornell alumnus Lv Yanzhi, Class of 1918, one of China’s most influential architects and the designer of several landmark buildings.
