Democratic backsliding is occurring in an unprecedented number of wealthy countries once thought immune to such forces – the United States among them, finds a new analysis led by Cornell political scientists.

After his family was forced to flee a government crackdown in Turkey, Florida State University sociologist Azat Gündoğan found a "lifeline" at Cornell as an International Institute of Education’s Scholar Rescue Fund fellow.

For its work supporting international scholars whose work puts them at risk in their home countries, Cornell has been awarded the Institute of International Education’s Centennial Medal, which celebrates the achievements and leadership of individuals and institutions that have made important contributions to international education.

Five Cornell PhD students have received Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad awards, with support from the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies.

With the support of Cornell Global Hubs joint seed grants, researchers are building international connections and advancing their research.

Nearly 200 new first-year and transfer students from 49 countries participated in Prepare, a virtual and in-person preorientation for international undergraduates, offered by the Office of Global Learning, part of Global Cornell.
