Kalaniyot at Cornell Postdoctoral Fellowships

Applications are open for Israeli PhD graduates interested in conducting agriculture-related postdoctoral research at Cornell. Selected fellows will be welcomed into a vibrant community for a three-year fellowship.

The objective is for Israeli researchers to conduct cutting-edge research, build strong research ties to Cornell, and maintain connections with their Cornell colleagues after they return to Israel. A cohort of three to four postdoctoral fellows will be selected annually. Read Frequently Asked Questions for applicants.

Overview

  • Awards are open to residents of Israel who have recently completed PhDs at Israeli universities. Fellows are expected but not required to return to Israel to continue their research careers.
  • Applicants must identify and gain the support of a Cornell faculty mentor. Each faculty mentor can support one application. Applicants can have multiple co-mentors. If co-mentors are listed, one mentor must be identified as the lead mentor to accept and manage fellowship funds.
  • Applications will be reviewed for merit and feasibility by a selection committee of faculty experts. Award decisions are final.
  • The postdoctoral fellow, mentor, department, and college are responsible for meeting all compliance requirements associated with the award, including any IRB and animal research approvals.

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for a Kalaniyot at Cornell postdoctoral fellowship if you

  • are a current resident of Israel.
  • recently earned a PhD at an Israeli university. Preference will be given to applicants within a year of completing the PhD.
  • are qualified to undertake agricultural research at Cornell, with the support of a Cornell faculty mentor. Only Cornell assistant professors, associate professors, and professors are eligible to serve as faculty mentors.

Award Amount

Successful applicants will be awarded up to $XXXX total costs per year for the duration of the fellowship (typically three years). The award can be applied to allowable costs as outlined below.

Allowable Costs

Allowable costs include fellow compensation and fringe benefits, fellow and family relocation travel, childcare for fellow’s children, and fellow’s professional development, such as publication costs or conference attendance.

Unallowable Costs

Unallowable costs include mentor PI effort, lab supplies, research costs, clinical research, equipment, and any other costs not explicitly referenced as allowable IRB and IACUC requirements. Indirect costs of 15% are allowed only for hospital-based fellowships.
