About
Supportive Campus Community
Kalaniyot upholds U.S. universities as inclusive research and learning environments with a core purpose of welcoming students and scholars of all backgrounds. Kalaniyot chapters nationwide are organized and led by local faculty.
Kalaniyot at Cornell, an official chapter of the Kalaniyot Foundation, supports research excellence and the Cornell mission to discover, preserve, and disseminate knowledge; educate the next generation of global citizens; and promote a culture of broad inquiry throughout and beyond the Cornell community.
Kalaniyot's Bylaws
- Collaboration and Community Focus: Kalaniyot supports programs that foster academic collaboration between U.S. and Israeli scholars, while enriching the local academic community.
- Positive Academic Environment: The program will promote positivity, encouraging students and scholars to focus on their studies and research, minimizing disruption or diversion into politically charged activities.
- Partnering with the University: Kalaniyot faculty will aspire to bridge between university leadership and the campus Jewish community to help address key challenges, cultivating a better environment for all.
- Commitment to Inclusivity: The program will cultivate an inclusive faculty-led environment, rejecting all forms of discrimination, harassment, or targeting of individuals based on identity, nationality, or religious or political beliefs.
- Nonpolitical Stance: Kalaniyot is an academic—not a political—organization. Official Kalaniyot activities and communications must remain strictly nonpolitical. Naturally, leaders of Kalaniyot may also be deeply engaged in other campus groups that are political. Kalaniyot may partner with other campus organizations in activities such as community lunches, lecture series, and other academic and nonpolitical programming.
- Respect for University Policies: All activities under the Kalaniyot program must comply with the university's operational and governance structures, ensuring adherence to local rules and regulations.
- Prohibited Activities: Kalaniyot programs will not engage in or endorse disruptive protests, walkouts, sit-ins, or any activities that may negatively impact the university's academic mission or violate campus policies. Similarly, Kalaniyot will not target individuals or engage in online shaming.
- Endorsing Freedom of Speech: Kalaniyot supports freedom of speech and defers to university policies for rules and regulations regarding its expression.
