Tata-Cornell scholar and PhD candidate Shiuli Vanaja was stuck under lockdown in her home in New Delhi, India, but that didn’t stop her from earning her doctorate in Applied Economics and Management. The coronavirus prevented Shiuli from returning to Ithaca for her B exam, so she joined professors Prabhu Pingali, David Just, and David Sahn on Zoom. Though the internet connection was at times less than ideal, she successfully defended her dissertation on access to household drinking water in rural India. Congratulations, Dr. Vanaja!
